New location for Smokey Mountain

More than 150 families from the “Smokey Mountain” have been relocated this month to Bulacan, a location about 90 minutes drive from Manila city and more families in the next future will do the same.

After years of living in a devastating condition in the garbage dump, the government provided a clean environment with small houses with water source, and nature around them.

Seems from the picture that few families made a big change of their life, but ELA Empowering Lives Asia and Malaya Kids are worried about the job opportunities in the middle of nowhere to be able to feed their families, apparently the old condition of the smokey mountain was terrible but everyone had a job to do. For now it will be important to create livelihood possibilities.

Maybe it will be a great idea in the next future to start an HWB hair salon in Bulacan, run by our students… it sounds fantastic!!
